Puppy & Kitten Care
Give your new pet the best start in life.
The first wellness exam is a critical step in establishing the health of your puppy or kitten, so it is important to schedule an exam with us as soon as possible. At the Animal Medical Center of the Lowcountry, our comprehensive puppy or kitten exam will ensure your new companion gets off to a healthy start.
Your pet's first exam will include:
- A physical examination
- Heartworm prevention
- Intestinal parasite (worm) screening and deworming, if necessary
- External parasite (flea/tick) screening and parasite protection
- Vaccines based on your pet's age and lifestyle
- Behavior and training recommendations
- Nutritional counseling
In preparation for your pet’s first visit with us, it is helpful to bring the health information provided to you by the seller or shelter, which should include a previous history of vaccines and deworming. Please arrive with your puppy on a leash, or kitten in a secure carrier for his or her safety.
In addition to examining your new pet and providing them with vaccines and diagnostics, your veterinarian will discuss other services that could help them live a longer, healthier life, such as spaying and neutering.
